This week’s episode begins with Bellamy and Kane conducting an impromptu meeting to catch each other up on the current situation with the native grounders, when a scream is heard and chaotic opposition begins. Kane asserts himself, taking the leadership reigns once again and sending a group out to locate the source of the cry. Clarke sits among the other survivors at Mt. Weather when an alarm sounds which she learns means it’s an emergency. Clarke and Jasper hastily arrive to the ward and find someone with a wound that Clarke claims is from a gunshot before a man with severe burn marks is carried in. (Gunshot indicates non grounders)
We see Jaha running throughout the ark searching for the baby he hears crying, and comes across an infant that will more than likely effect his looming death. Raven finds out that the bullet, courtesy of Murphy, is still inside of her and if not removed she will stay paralyzed, but if they do the surgery to remove it, she could die. Oh and let’s not forget that she’ll be awake for the entire procedure. She decides that, while in space she may not have needed her legs, she worries about her physical limitations and decides to push forward with surgery and staking her claim as a fighter.
Clarke confronts Dante (Mt Weather President) about the soldier who was shot, and he attempts to dismiss it as an arrow but casually agrees to show her the evidence. Jaha finds a new reason to live, and begins his quest to find a way back to earth with his new child companion finding that he may be able to launch himself back via missile. As Raven preps for surgery her fears start to take over; but, with the assistance of Finn, she continues. Though we don’t see the surgery itself, Raven’s perilous screams are heard by a nearby Bellamy and Murphy who are busy throwing some mutual shade for their lack of trust. The adult group is startled by a man’s scream once again, and the group finds three of their men sent to scout.
Clarke looks over the body of the deceased man, and is informed they all have a dialysis shunt in case of exposure for blood transfusions and apparently cleansing. The exit wound is an arrow as Dante described with all seeming well, at least that’s what they are hoping to portray. Raven survives surgery with Abby crediting that to her courage, which Kane additionally credits to all of the youthful survivors, but Raven lays unconscious with the damage unknown until she’s awake and can evaluate the situation.
Octavia awakens being healed by a grounder and friend of Lincoln who shares the information that he is paying for his crimes by attempting to save Octavia. She is fueled by the news that Lincoln is in danger and takes the grounders’ healer captive, using him as a hostage to trade for Lincoln. Octavia holds a blade to his throat and demands cooperation, finally coming into her own as a warrior. After some legitimate intimidation tactics, they make an arrangement to meet for the trade on mutual ground. There is nothing these two won’t do for love and I’m a little jealous, I must admit!
After Raven awakens, it’s determined that there is enough nerve damage to keep her on crutches at the very least, with a non functioning left leg. Though Abby tries to find the positive outcome of being alive, a tearful raven says “but I’m still paralyzed” that devastates the viewers. Jaha goes on his gravity-like space quest (these special effects are flawless) and makes it across to the missile he needs. After a daring leap to the other side of the remaining ark through space, it’s revealed the child is actually non existent before he sees his deceased son Wells. Whether by spirit, in his mind, or whatever it may be; Wells appears to him and shares a touching moment where he encourages his dad to survive, reminding Jaha that his people still need him. I actually enjoyed the ambiguity of what actually occurred, and it gave him what he needed to live.
Finn helps Bellamy escape, along with Murphy, so they can go find Clarke and the others. It is shown that they are released by Abby who will likely encounter conflict with Kane for her actions, but it felt like the right thing to do. Speaking of Clarke, she now sits in an artsy lounge feeling restless when she notices the burned man from the beginning now almost completely healed, giving her the detective spark she needed. Now here’s where Clarke shows how badass she is yet again…in order to receive medical treatment and get another look at the facility, she cuts her arms open over her stitches in a squeamish scene. There’s just no stopping this girl, she’s a beast and requires no assistance from the others. I have a feeling everyone who’s doubted her will soon be thanking her for her bravery and persistence.
Octavia arrives to the location agreed upon an makes the trade for Lincoln, but just as the two find each other reunited a group of Reapers arrive for battle, and a quick Octavia turns for the melee. When havoc ensues she is hit over the head and collapses in a daze, as she watches them take her Grounder soulmate captive. At this rate, Octavia is going to be working hard to keep him alive. Jaha’s mission to earth brings success, and he takes in his surroundings as the camera pans out and we are left to wonder what desert location he’s arrived to, but consider me relieved that he managed to live!
At Mt Weather, Clarke pretends to be asleep in the medical ward, and when left alone she follows the blood transfusions to a room where dozens of scared and sickly looking people are caged or hung with their blood being harvested. Think a human soft drink dispenser filled with blood. When she surveys the room, she comes across none other than the Grounder leader Anya who is a blood bag prospect as well. Things are definitely heating up at Mt. Weather, and the Grounder/Reaper/Ark survivor conflict seems to be intensifying as well, I can’t wait to see what crazy conflictsThe 100 throws at us next week!
