Joss Whedon has been as busy man as of late; with Avengers: Age of Ultron being released in select countries, endless interviews, and Agents of Shield still airing, the world can collectively agree that the brilliant creator could use a much needed break for months – maybe years – from the chaos of helming multiple projects. Joss took to Twitter to jokingly discuss his future To-Do checklist. After addressing various incarnations of naps, Whedon finally comments on the “issue” with a Buffy the Vampire Slayer release on Blu-Ray. (Or lack of.)

For those of you who don’t know, Fox recently gave the cult classic series (and the best show on television, period.) an HD conversion, that began airing on the channel Pivot from the very first season. Almost instantly fans voiced their concerns, realizing that Fox managed to change the shows original full screen 4:3 format to a widescreen 16:9 format. You may feel confused as to why this matters, but Buffy was originally filmed with a full screen ratio in mind, to create a specific appearance for dramatic effect. When these widescreen Buffy episodes began airing, multiple extended shots included glimpses of the crew and equipment on the sets peripheral which didn’t go unnoticed by the fandom.

Aside from the aspect shift, the colors were enhanced that drastically altered the lighting for the overall episodes. Those once dark shots of the Sunnydale Library, or a patrol in the cemetery now have a certain glow that makes you realize how important the dark tones were to the series. In some cases, filters were used to portray these lighting changes in the original episodes that are removed entirely, changing a scene from night to day. It baffles me that Fox hasn’t contacted Joss or anyone involved from the series to fulfill their hopes for the series, so lets hope Joss eventually ends up having some input to on a proper BTVS Blu-ray conversion that it rightfully deserves. It is HIS show after all!
