Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 12 Announced With Joss Whedon

Dark Horse Comics

It’s a glorious day to be a Buffy the Vampire Slayer fan because not only has Season 12 been officially announced – but it will see the return of Joss Whedon as a writer on the project.

For several years now, the iconic series by Whedon has been adapted as a comic book continuation through Dark Horse Comics (as I have actively reviewed and loved.) The season 11 finale left the series on a perfect note as the scoobies established normalcy through chaos – but as we feared, things could be taking a dark turn as Whedon series are known to do. In a press release from Dark Horse, the 12th season is confirmed to be titled Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 12: The Reckoning, with a shortened four issue arc. As sad as I am about the shortened season, the news that it will include another major return has completely raised the stakes… the return of Fray!

In case you need to be reminded, Fray was a Joss Whedon comics that set the tone for the future of the Buffyverse by showing a potentially darker world than the one we knew of. We met the twin sibling Slayers Fray and her brother-turned-vampire sibling Harth, but additionally learned that Willow survives 200 years into the future – speaking in riddles and embracing the Dark Willow aesthetic. To top off an already mind-blowing announcement, this crossover season will bring Angel, Fred, Illyria and even Wolfram and Hart back into the mix. The season is set to begin publication June 20, 2018, so keep up with PopWrapped for more coverage and check out some of the exciting announcement below!

“Following the world-altering finale of Season 11, Buffy and the Scoobies have had a laid-back year in the saving-the-world department. But as they’ve learned over their years of fighting the forces of darkness and thwarting many an apocalypse, nothing stays quiet for long. When Dawn and Xanders housewarming party is crashed by some familiar faces with news of an amassing force that must be reckoned withWolfram & Hart, a legion of demons, and Harth, a vampire from the futureBuffy finds herself in a time warp that could alter the fate of the world and could spell the end for Buffy, her friends, and the Slayers, forever.”

5 Things We Learned From The Scream Queens Panel At SDCC

scream queens

Scream Queens aired it’s first season last fall, debuting a blend of horror and comedy that earned a dedicated following and solidified a second season. During San Diego Comic Con 2016, Scream Queens held a panel in the popular area of Ballroom 20 with the cast (Emma Roberts, Abigail Breslin, Jamie Lee Curtis, Billie Lourd, Keke Palmer, Lea Michele, Taylor Lautner and John Stamos) joined by the series executive producer Ian Brennan to talk all things Scream Queens and what’s in store for the second season based in a hospital. Here’s a few of the major takeaways from the panel to enjoy until the season begins…

1 – There will be a time jump.

Scream Queens will be skipping three years from the finale of the first season to the premiere of season 2, giving us enough time to take a look at where each character has found themselves after surviving a campus-wide murder spree.

2 – The Chanels have hit a low.

The clique of mean-girls (that we absolutely love) are used to being at the top in terms of popularity, wealth and status but that will be changing. According to the panelists, the Chanels have all lost the money they fall back on, but will still do their best to keep up their expensive fashion tastes despite going through obvious hardships.

3 – Hester’s storyline will be kept secret for the time being.

Hester will be a large part of the second season, with life taking her down a different path that nobody was quite ready to divulge.  Michele stated regarding Hester’s role, “When we come back, we don’t know where Hester is. It’s great when you find out.” Michele also went on to admit that her wardrobe for Hester will include something different than before which makes us more anxious to see where the murderer ends up.

4 – Zayday and Kathy Munsch develop a friendship.

The two didn’t have too much interaction during the first season, but Munsch will extend her help to Zayday who has become slightly lost after surviving the Red Devil. With the former dean now a rich hospital owner, she finds Zayday to be the most qualified to take under her wing for the hospital setting – placing Zayday in a power position as well.

5 – Emma Roberts may return to AHS

This may not be correlated to Scream Queens directly, but during the panel Roberts suggested she could come back after plans for last season fell through. Now that Ryan has suggested a major crossover potential for the AHS seasons, could this mean we’ll finally see the return of the beloved Madison Montgomery from AHS Coven? Let’s hope so!

The ever-expanding Star Wars universe continues its reign as a powerful franchise with multiple sequels and spin-off films in the works – and they have found a perfect actor to portray a young Han Solo!

26 year old actor Alden Ehrenreich was on the list of possible casting choices for the mysterious Han Solo prequel film in addition to Taron Egerton and Jack Reynor, however Deadline is now reporting that the talented and rising star earned a role that will be remembered for decades to come. Ehrenreich was the standout actor of the film Beautiful Creatures, going on to impress in the Cohen brothers film Hail, Caesar! with an upcoming role in the untitled Warren Beatty project about Howard Hughes. The site adds that Ehrenreich has continued to astonish after multiple screen tests, coming up against a variety of well known actors for the film that is set to be directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller. The star seemed like an instant fit for an iconic character –  and who wouldn’t love the chance to see the younger adventures of Han and Chewie?

It is a pleasant surprise to hear the hard working young actor could bring additional Han Solo stories to the franchise, so fingers crossed Ehrenreich’s incarnation of the character begins to unfold soon enough! Are you excited about the exciting casting choice? Let us know in the comments!
